The new Nikonos was the world's first professional underwater camera featuring autofocus reflex operation.

Inheriting select elements from their predecessors, the Nikon F3F4 and F5 took years of engineering and research to introduce a plentiful string of dedicated performance and technical innovations encased within a camera body spearheaded by refined design, focused around operational ease and ergonomic flow, whether horizontally or vertically, and ready-light program and shot settings.

The new Nikonos was the world's first professional underwater camera featuring autofocus reflex operation with outstanding accuracy. Exalting the ergonomics of the Nikonos professional underwater camera is the important, embossed lever with orange-colored inlays that make it easy to see in deeper underwater conditions.
