The Concept Development department drives the definition and creation of a product. It aligns client needs with technical solutions, focusing on ergonomics, safety, and user experience. Italdesign defines vehicle packages, dimensions, and layouts based on market requirements, supporting clients in realizing their visions. We create various concepts, from static models to fully functional show cars and proofs of concept.

Cost Engineering at Italdesign emphasizes Design-to-Cost principles, ensuring that design effectively manages and controls expenses. By integrating Cost Management into the design process, we prioritize functionality alongside aesthetics, creating solutions that deliver exceptional quality while optimizing costs throughout development and manufacturing. Chassis development means achieving high targets in terms of dynamics and comfort, satisfying increasingly complex requirements and integrating new advanced driving assistance functions. Italdesign manages the engineering development of all vehicle chassis, including EVs and combustion engines. Our expertise in virtual development and validation on tracks and roads ensures an efficient process that balances performance and environmental impact.

The Italdesign team vertically addresses vehicle development, from concept to start of production, taking into account worldwide market needs and combining design, legal, performance and cost requirements. With over 50 years of experience and advanced digital technologies, we excel as system integrators and subsystem developers for platforms, body structures, closures, bumpers, and interior trims.

Italdesign prioritizes aerodynamics from the project’s start, because external and internal air flows highly affect the vehicle performance and have a huge impact on exterior and interior design. Our team works closely with CAD/CAE experts to optimize air flows and utilizes dedicated testing facilities to enhance aerodynamics, air conditioning, and thermal management, ensuring vehicles meet performance standards effectively.

Italdesign oversees the complete development of vehicle harnesses, collaborating closely with the entire body, electrical and electronic teams. We manage harness development, including brackets, and handle the digital mock-up (DMU) package for all electrical components. This ensures seamless integration and functionality throughout the project, from concept to production.

Italdesign prioritizes safety in vehicle development with a dedicated team focused on global homologation, safety assessments, safety components development and testing and whole vehicle validation. We conduct over 1,000 tests annually in our internal lab, addressing both active and passive safety. Our team analyzes results and manages safety challenges specific to electric vehicles, ensuring thorough preparation for high-speed crash and active safety tests.
