Vision

The Lancia Delta project marked the relaunch of Lancia as a prominent player in the automotive market. Designed by Italdesign, the Delta was created in response to the success of the Volkswagen Golf and aimed to deliver a compact yet dynamic hatchback that embodied both elegance and practicality. The Delta played a crucial role in shaping Lancia’s brand identity and future models with its striking geometric design and emphasis on comfort and quality.

Key Highlights

Introduced in 1980, the Lancia Delta was awarded Car of the Year. Italdesign’s approach focused on creating a distinctive two-box design, with clean, straight lines that exuded personality. Delta offered a more spacious and premium interior, elevating the driving experience. Though an innovative sliding rear seat concept was considered to increase luggage space, it was ultimately excluded due to production costs. Delta’s design also introduced a new cowling, which became a defining feature of Lancia’s models throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
