Responsibilities
- Lead the packaging, engineering design, release and launch of cockpit modules, center consoles, interior trim components, door trim, luggage side and decorative parts of a state-of-the-art vehicle.
- Create cutting edge interior systems focusing on quality, reliability, functionality, mass and cost efficiency.
- Work interactively within a cross functional studio and vehicle engineering team, placing priority upon the greater benefit of the vehicle above any one individual system.
- Employ and develop world class engineering tools and an innovative approach to support the systems generation.
- Determine required tolerances using GD&T.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required
Requirements
Key requirements
- 5+ years of experience in vehicle interior trim design & development specifically in CPM, center console, interior trim, door trim, and luggage side.
- Experience in creative engineering and 3D problem solving.
- Proven experience with thermoplastic & thermoset resin materials and class A manufacturing technologies (including molding, fabric/vinyl wrapping, painting, film, plating, and hydrographics).
- A good understanding of the range of computational tools available to design engineers.
- Experience in full life cycle from concept to prototype to full production through product launch.
- Experience in technology, system and supplier selection with expectation of leading activities.
- Proven 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software.
- Interpersonal skills, teamwork, with a great work ethic
Preferential requirements
- Solid track record of successful system level integration.
- 7+ years of experience with plastics design, Class A surfaces, design for manufacturability, occupant protection, lighting integration, module integration, tooling, resins, supply base, fit and finish, gap and flush, module concept, thermal expansion, structural design, grain and gloss specifications
- Master and Construction Section development experience.
- Regulatory and homologation knowledge primarily for the North American market.
- A strong desire to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a very capable team.
Other Informations
Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from ABET accredited institution or equivalent body structures automotive experience.
Language skills: Fluent knowledge of English is required; Knowledge of Italian is a plus;
Workplace: Oakland County – MI – USA and availability to travel.
