Fruit of many readaptation, Passat was ordered to Italdesign on 1969 from Volkswagen's president Kurt Lotz.
The first project looked like a largest Golf model, the project development was started. By changing the top management in Wolfsburg and the arrival of new president Rudolf Leiding the project was drastically revised.
The new Passat is fruit of combination between floor, front and door of Audi 80 with back space of first project.
Remained in production from 1973 to 1980.
