The new Schindler escalator range for major complexes (department stores, convention halls, etc.) is highly innovative: new stair departure and arrival profile, new handrail cross-section, balustrade cover panels lit from the inside, one-piece mechanism shields, abrasive material for the takeoff and landing areas, special coating materials and designed to fit in with interior design projects of broader scope.

Research into individual escalator components was backed by a specific desire to promote design trends aiming to eliminate roughness and corners and promote smoothly rounded shapes and flush fitting between different materials with extreme simplicity and cleanliness of line (in a car, such design would be referred to as 'aerodynamic').
